Mikä ihme DipDay?
Vuosittaista DipDay-päivää vietetään 2.9. - ja sitä edeltävällä ja seuraavalla viikolla
Ihmiset neulovat julkisesti (Knitting in Public - KIP) - joten miksi ei värjättäisikin. DIP-sana tulee englannin kielen sanoista Dye in Public, eli julkisesti värjääminen.
Ensimmäinen kansainvälinen DipDay järjestettiin 2011. DipDay kutsuu joka vuosi värjärit kaikkialta maailmasta värjäämään yhdessä ja julkisesti. Tapahtumat voivat olla pieniä tai suuria. Koska värjääminen julkisilla paikoilla voi olla hankalaa, DipDay-tapahtumia voi järjestää myös omalla takapihalla. Jos et esimerkiksi halua järjestää julkista tapahtumaa, voit ihan hyvin kutsua muutamia kavereita kylään, värjäillä ja lähettää jälkikäteen muutamia kuvia ja lyhyen kuvauksen tapahtumastanne blogiin! Pääideana päivässä on kuitenkin tuoda värjäämistä esiin, joten avoimien ovien politiikka on tervetullut - jos joku haluaa tulla katsomaan, sen pitäisi olla helppoa!
Ei ole olemassa sen tarkempia ohjeita - jos ei ole helppoa järjestää tulipesiä tai sähköliesiä värjäyspaikalle, yhtä hyvin voidaan valmistella aurinkovärjäyspurkkeja vaikka kaupungin puistoissa. Fokuksessa ovat luonnonvärit, mutta muukin meille kelpaa. DipDay-tapahtumassa ei tarvitse välttämättä värjätä: yhtä hyvin voit esitellä värjäystuotoksiasi tai vaikkapa kasveja, joista luonnonvärejä saadaan. Myöskään koolla ei ole väliä: tapahtumaan kelpaa yhtä hyvin yhden kuin kymmenen väripadan porina. Myös kokeelliset projektit ovat tervetulleita!

People knit in public (KIP) - so why not dye in public (DIP)?
The first international DipDay was organized on the September 2, 2011. Each year DipDay invites dyers from all over the world to dye together and open the doors for public to see. The events can be small - just invite some friends and ask also some other people to see - or as big as you choose. As we know that the dyeing may be difficult on public places the DipDay events can also be organized in people's backyards. For example, if you don't want to organize a public event, you can just invite some friends over, dye with them, and then send some photos and a short description for our blog afterwards! The main point however should be, that the event should be public - if someone wants to come and take a look, it should be easy!
There are no rules or specimens - you can organize sun dyeing events in the park just to show how to put the yarn in the glass jars or have a bigger happening in your backyard or any other place. Our focus is on natural dyes, but also other dye projects are welcome. DipDay event doesn't have to include dyeing, you can also organize DipDay by introducing your dyed yarns or for example plants that give dye. And it doesn't matter if you have one dye pot on fire or ten of them. It doesn't have to be "professional" - pure experiments are welcome too.
